Each summer, Nourish students travel abroad to conduct sustainable development projects using funds earned throughout the year by ventures. Nourish Chapters invest the money they earn in sustainable development projects with a specific, measurable outcome. To conduct these projects, Nourish Chapters work with a local partner organization that has the demonstrated support of the local community. By focusing on partnerships with specific communities, Nourish breaks the problem of poverty down to a manageable size and empowers the community to sustain itself once the student team leaves.

We believe the key to having an impact on extreme poverty is empowering communities that have sustainable, scalable solutions. Nourish partners with communities who lack the necessary funds and resources for development projects but who have the entrepreneurial vision to eradicate poverty. Our role is not to act as a project manager, but as a catalyst to help accelerate change.

Global Impact

Since 2004, teams of Nourish students have completed 65 international projects with 45 communities in 25 countries. In total, Nourish has invested over $266,000 into these projects abroad. International project outcomes range from clean drinking water for a community in Peru to improved marketing for a women’s cooperative in Turkey. The focus for Nourish International is not a specific issue, such as water or nutrition, but on the process of working with communities. Nourish Chapters have the ability to choose which projects they want to fund and implement. Each project is specially designed to meet the community needs expressed by our local partners.
