Nourish accomplishes its mission by serving as a platform for students to make a global impact today while preparing themselves for a lifetime of making a difference.
Our model consists of two phases: first, it engages students in running on-campus social enterprises. Second, it empowers communities by having students invest their profits, time, and skills into community based solutions to poverty.
We seek to provide students with an experiential education curriculum that provides them with a leadership framework, problem solving skills and global citizen perspective. We recognize that in doing so, students are out in the field in developing nations. Safety is our number one priority and we do everything possible to ensure the safety of our students throughout the year.
“I’ve been a fan of Nourish International for years, so was excited when my son, Will, was accepted as a member of a Nourish team to build latrines in a village in Peru’s Moche Valley. Will is proud of his new ability to make bricks from mud cured by the sun, and I’ve enjoyed the conversations we’ve had that indicate just how much he grew from his experience. He’s remarkably wise on topics like whether it would be better to send his plane fare as direct aid to the Peruvian villagers, or whether the villagers actually want latrines. The Nourish experience was a great growth experience for Will! As a parent, I felt confident that the Nourish team structured the project in a safe, effective and respectful way. I remain a Nourish fan!” – Blake Strayhorn, parent of UNC chapter member and project participant
